Like most librarians in the PCC library, I am a generalist. I spend much of my time teaching people who ask me a simple question like “Where can I find three scholarly articles on restitution?” how to really think about what they are looking for; then where to look for it and how to find it; and finally how to figure out if what they find is really useful to them. I work at the library’s reference desk, I meet with classes to show students how the library can help them accomplish their research, and I also teach a one-credit class on doing research, including how to use the library and the Internet effectively.

I am active in professional information literacy groups in Portland and around Oregon, and also serve as the PCC Library faculty’s Department Chair. Working in the library at PCC is my dream job. My professional goal is for our students to become life-long readers and thinkers, and for them to recognize any library as a place meant for them, to use and enjoy.
