Search Hints

Multiple words

Searching multiple words brings back all records with those words, though not necessarily in the order they were typed.
Example: alcohol drug counseling

Phrase searches

To search for an exact phrase, put quotation marks around the words being searched.
Example: “United States supreme court”

Truncation

Use an asterisk to find works with similar letters. The asterisk matches up to five characters
Example: environ* will find environs, environment, environmental

Operators (AND, OR, NOT)

Use "and" or "or" to specify multiple words in any field, any order. Use "and not" to exclude words.
Example: (alaska or canada) and (adventure) (Note: The catalog automatically inserts an "and")
Example: (alternative energy) and not (biofuel)

Proximity (near)

Use "near" to specify words close to each other, in any order.
