JOB SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Dean supervises the day-to-day operations of athletic facilities at assigned campus. Plans, organizes, and coordinates a variety of athletic activities in order to support the missions of the College and supervises campus technical/support and student staff.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

The Athletics Supervisor serves as a first line supervisor in carrying out day-to-day operations and may make recommendations regarding operating procedures. Employees supervised at this level perform duties that typically are transactional in nature.

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Supervises and participates in the scheduling of athletic facilities for classes, recreation use, and use by groups outside the College community. Reviews, prepares, and publishes facility schedules.
  2. Supervises technical/support and student staff. Hires, evaluates, trains, disciplines and recommends dismissal of staff as necessary.
  3. Organizes, schedules, publicizes, conducts, and evaluates intramural, intercollegiate, and/or other related athletic events and activities. Prepares schedules and ensures facilities, equipment, audiovisual requirements, prizes, uniforms, and/or other related items are available and set up for events within appropriate timeframes. Evaluates programs and events for future improvements and/or modifications. Maintains related results and financial records.
  4. Supervises and monitors facility maintenance and custodial operations, issues, and upkeep to ensure safety and aesthetics of facilities. Organizes facility set-up and tear down for events.
  5. Requisitions services, supplies, equipment, and materials required to ensure efficient operations in day-to-day activities. Monitors and maintains inventory.
  6. Coordinates, schedules, and trains temporary and/or contract employees as needed to meet the needs of the facility and programs. Serves as a liaison with external contractors and vendors.
  7. Prepares, reviews, and maintains a variety of reports and documents related to assigned programs and associated activities, including financial reports that reflect program revenue, expenses, and participant counts.
  8. Supervises and participates in the development and distribution of recreational facility brochures, fliers, mailings, and/or other related public relations materials.
  9. Submits budget recommendations for consideration; monitors expenses to ensure conformance to budget constraints.
  10. Positions in this classification may perform all or some of the responsibilities above and all positions perform other related duties as assigned.

POSITION SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Sylvania Campus

Positions assigned to Sylvania Campus may also be responsible for:

  • Supervising the operations and day-to-day activities of the aquatic facility,
  • ensuring compliance with applicable regulations.
Cascade Campus

Positions assigned to Cascade Campus may also be responsible for:

  • Coordinating the Intercollegiate basketball program, which includes: recruiting, hiring, training, scheduling, and supervising basketball coaches and athletic trainers;
  • ensuring coaches have and maintain appropriate certifications;
  • preparing and distributing game announcements and updates;
  • preparing, distributing, and monitoring athletic letters of intent;
  • preparing intercollegiate athlete eligibility documents and ensuring league reporting requirements are met;
  • processing student athletic tuition assistance forms and documents;
  • providing counseling and advisement to athletes, coaches, and athletic staff; preparing and submitting required reports;
  • and/or, performing other related activities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree in Physical Education, Recreation, Athletics or related field. Relevant experience may substitute for the degree requirement on a year-for-year basis. Three years progressively responsible athletic program experience, including one year of supervisory experience. Position may require First Aid Certification, CPR Certification, AED Certification, and Certified Pool Operator Certification.

  • Utilizing computer technology used for communication, data gathering and reporting;
  • Communicating effectively through oral and written mediums.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Work is generally performed in both an office and outdoor environment with frequent interruptions and irregularities in the work schedule. Frequent reaching, sitting, walking, standing, climbing, lifting, stooping, or carrying of equipment and materials may be required. Incumbents may be required to lift and carry up to 100 pounds.
