Job Summary

Under the direction of the Curriculum Support Services Division Manager manages processes associated with obtaining internal and State approval of new instructional programs on a District-wide basis, which includes obtaining program approvals, implementing policies, representing the College on various groups and committees, and ensuring the College is in compliance with applicable rules and regulations. Responds to inquiries from College departments, educational institutions, the community, and/or external agencies and supervises academic services staff.

Distinguishing Characteristics

The Curriculum Support Manager carries out operating policies and procedures with a focus in the area of curriculum programs.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Supervises academic services technical/support staff. Hires, evaluates, trains, disciplines and recommends dismissal of staff as necessary.
  2. Serves as a liaison to applicable external agencies, internal departments, and applicable educational institutions representing the College with respect to academic programs, which includes: serving on work groups and task forces, attending trainings, receiving electronic information to be communicated to others within the college, and determining eligibility for credit and non-credit programs.
  3. Provides support to faculty, Division Deans, and Deans of Instruction regarding College and State guidelines for academic programs.
  4. Facilitates the approval processes for new program offerings at the College.
  5. Manages the process associated with State regulatory program compliance, including accreditation.
  6. Manages and coordinates the preparation and dissemination of a variety of reports and publications for the College for use and access by students and/or other institutions, which may include: program amendments for professional technical programs, the PCC catalog, degree worksheets, promotional publications for programs, information for institutional effectiveness, career information systems reports, and/or other related items.
  7. Positions in this classification may perform all or some of the responsibilities above and all positions perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree curriculum and instruction, educational administration or a related field. Relevant experience may substitute for the degree requirement on a year-for-year basis. Three years progressively responsible experience related to area of assignment, including two years of supervisory experience.

Knowledge and Skills

Knowledge of:
  • Supervisory principles;
  • Applicable processes associated with academic program approval and implementation;
  • Instructional programs at the community college level;
  • Applicable State regulations associated with accreditation and academic program compliance;
  • Curriculum theory and development principles;
  • Higher education principles and practices.
Skills in:
  • Supervising subordinate staff;
  • Developing, recommending, implementing, and monitoring policies, procedures, and work flow;
  • Preparing a variety of reports related to operational activities, including statistical analysis;
  • Evaluating academic programs for compliance with applicable regulations;
  • Facilitating academic program approval processes;
  • Coordinating the preparation and publication of a variety of reports and publications;
  • Conducting research to identify solutions, resolve problems, or provide information’
  • Working with diverse academic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds of community college students and staff;
  • Utilizing computer technology for communication, data gathering and reporting activities;
  • Communicating effectively through oral and written mediums.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

Work is generally performed in an office environment with frequent interruptions and irregularities in the work schedule. May occasionally be required to lift up to 25 pounds. No special coordination beyond that used for normal mobility and handling of everyday objects and materials is needed to perform the job satisfactorily.
