TITLE: Grants Officer

Under the direction of the Grants Manager, the Grants Officer serves either as a lead team member in developing and writing grant proposals to foundations and government agencies in order to obtain funding for college activities, and/or be responsible for compliance with and dissemination of sponsored agency programmatic policies, guidelines, rules and regulations.


  1. Coordinates college teams responsible for writing, developing and implementing grant proposals. Coordination typically includes the development and writing of grant proposals.
  2. Facilitates grant efforts, including grant approval process and post-award compliance. Ensures timelines are met.
  3. Monitors post-award grant compliance. Follows up with funding agencies and PCC staff as necessary.
  4. Acts as a Grants Office liaison to community organizations, government agencies, and PCC teams involved with the development and administration of projects and proposals.
  5. Researches information and data necessary for grants and grant reporting.
  6. Edits and organizes grant documents written by other staff and faculty.
  7. Develops outlines, timelines, staffing, budgets, and college boilerplate templates for grants according to funding guidelines.
  8. Facilitates workshops for and provides technical assistance to College staff, faculty, administrators, and teams in the area of grant writing, development, compliance and support.
  9. Works as a team with other Grants Office staff in performing grants office activities and assists the college with obtaining and maintaining external funding.
  10. Researches new funding opportunities available through local, state, and federal government agencies, as well as through private and corporate foundations.
  11. Reads and interprets requests for proposals and funding guidelines from government agencies and foundations to determine if appropriate for college and how best to respond and comply.
  12. Disseminates information on funding opportunities and compliance requirements to PCC staff, faculty, and administrators.
  13. Monitors outstanding grant proposals. Follows up with funding agency as necessary.
  14. Maintains necessary records, files, reports, databases, and resource materials pertinent to Grants Office activities.
  15. Performs other duties as assigned.


Work is performed in an office environment. Work also involves sitting at a computer and being on the phone for extended period of time. Tight grant timelines require the incumbent in this classification to work flexible hours. Some travel throughout the district is required. Occasional lifting of equipment used in training workshops that may weigh up to 30 pounds required.


Bachelor’s Degree in Public Affairs, Communications, English, Journalism, Education or a related field. Experience performing the duties of this job may substitute for the degree requirement on a year for year basis.

Demonstrated experience writing grant proposals and reports to both government and private funding sources. Experience coordinating grant development teams. Experience researching and identifying funding sources and requirements. Experience interpreting requests for proposals, reporting cycles and funding guidelines. Experience developing and monitoring budgets.


Knowledge of effective grant research and grant writing.

Knowledge of grant and other external funding sources.

Knowledge of effective project management techniques.

Knowledge of post-award compliance best practices.

Knowledge of educational institutions and policies and procedures.

Skill in designing, writing, and editing complex grant documents including reporting requirements.
