Helen Warren knows firsthand how the Portland Metropolitan Workforce Training Center can change a life.
Helen was a client who received job training and encouragement to continue her education. She earned a certificate in business technology at PCC, and then completed an associate's degree. Now, Helen works at PCC Portland Metro Workforce Training Center, helping others find employment.
Helen also coordinates the PCC Foundation Fund for Excellence for Portland Metro. Staff use fund donations to help clients with employment-related needs such as transportation, clothing and haircuts for an interview or to start a new job. Helen says, "We help with items that Department of Human Services can't cover."
The center, located in urban Northeast Portland, houses programs for people searching for employment and looking for help to learn job skills. The center staff focuses on helping get people back onto their feet and help them find employment.
There are four PCC Workforce Centers in the area designed to minimize the impact of job loss and unemployment, and create opportunities to new employment as quickly as possible.
