Duc Ho
Duc Ho, a Building Construction Technology Scholarship recipient, dreams of becoming a respected carpenter and construction manager.
Duc and his mother joined Duc's father in the US when Duc was 8 years old. His parent's dream that their only child could one day attend college drew them to the U.S. from Vietnam. When Duc was 16, the family had the opportunity to work toward owning a Habitat for Humanity house. Young Duc contributed many hours of sweat equity, working alongside framers, carpenters, plumbers, and painters and catching their love of hands-on construction.
Last summer, Duc participated in an intensive "green building" class, and in January, traveled to New Orleans with his PCC instructors and classmates to help with the city's post-Katrina rebuilding efforts.
"I did everything from demolishing, to installing drywall, to finish carpentry," he said. "It was an unforgettable experience.”
