What is the new repeat policy?
|How does repeating a class affect my...|
|Transcript||All grades earned will appear on the transcript.|
|GPA||All previous grades earned for that course will be excluded from your GPA, and the most recent grade earned will be calculated into your GPA.|
|Credit Hours||The most recent credit hours earned for a course will be calculated into your total credit hours earned, and all other credit hours for course will be excluded from your total credit hours earned.|
Please note: If a course can be taken for credit more than once (e.g., piano lessons), the oldest grade for that course will be excluded from your GPA and credit hours only when the repeat limit is exceeded.
What was the old repeat policy?
Courses with grades of D, F, NP, I, or CIP and CIPR could be repeated for a higher grade. All of the grades you earned would appear on your transcript. The first earned grade of C, P, or better would count in your credit total. The first grade of C or better would be used for the GPA calculation.
When does the new policy go into effect?
Summer term, 2011
Will the new policy affect courses I repeated in past terms?
For courses taken and repeated prior to Summer 2011, no change will occur. However, if a student takes a course before summer 2011, and the course is repeated during or after summer 2011, the new repeat rules will apply and the most recent grade will be counted in the GPA.
How will the new policy affect my GPA?
If a course is repeated, the GPA will factor in the most recent grade earned for the course; previous grades will be excluded from the GPA (except in the case where a course can be repeated for credit).
What happens if I repeat courses that can be repeated for credit (e.g., piano lessons)?
If a course can be taken more than once for credit, the oldest grade for that course will be excluded only when the repeat limit is exceeded.
Will my failing grades be removed from my transcript?
No. Even when grades are excluded from the GPA, all grades earned will appear on the transcript forever.
If I earn a "D" in a course and repeat the course and earn an "F", what happens to my GPA and credits?
The most recent grade is calculated in the GPA. In this situation, the "D" would be excluded from the GPA and the "F" would be included. The credits earned from the original attempt would be excluded, as well. Therefore, one should carefully consider the implications when deciding to repeat a course.
