Job Descriptions
To learn more about what type of work you will be performing, we offer the following general descriptions:
Office Assistant
Office Assistant duties can vary depending on the needs of the department you are working for and level of skill required for the position. Office Assistant duties can include but are not limited to: Answering phones, giving information to the public, preparing letters for mailing, filing, organizing, data entry, faxing, and other duties as required. Office Assistant positions allow a student to gain experience as a support person in a professional environment, while assisting fellow students, staff and faculty.
Lab Assistant
A variety of departments from Chemistry to Visual Arts to the Computer Lab are seeking Lab Assistants for their departments. Duties can vary depending on the needs of the department and can include: checking out materials to students and faculty, keeping inventory, light cleaning, maintenance of equipment/supplies, instructing students on the proper use of equipment, and general organizational support. Some Lab Assistant positions will include record keeping and data entry. Lab Assistant positions allow students to gain further knowledge and expertise in maintaining equipment in addition to customer service skills.
Tutor/Peer Advisor
For students who enjoy helping other students succeed in college, the Tutor/Peer Advisor positions could be a good match. Tutors are needed in many areas of the college in subjects such as math, reading, writing, science and languages. Specific duties vary depending on the needs of the department, but in general tutors must assist other students, either one-on-one or in small groups, with their coursework on a given subject. Peer Advisor duties may include some tutoring, but also may include more general support such as advising students on what resources PCC has to offer them, or giving students information about resources in the general community such as child care and housing information. The Tutor/Peer Advisor positions may appeal to students who are interested in gaining experience in the fields of teaching or social work.
Library Assistant
Currently Library Assistant positions are available at the Rock Creek, Sylvania and Cascade campuses. Library Assistant position duties may include: checking in and out books, shelving books and other library materials, assisting staff, faculty and students locate materials, data entry and other clerical tasks. Library Assistants also help keep the libraries clean and well organized. These positions allow students to gain knowledge of the inner-workings of a library and may be of interest to students thinking of library science as a career, or students who are undecided in their course of study.
Student Government/Leadership
Student Government and Leadership positions appeal to students who want to become more involved in the PCC community. Duties may include but are not limited to: planning educational, recreational and social events on campus, monitoring bulletin boards and posts, creating advertising for student events, representing students in front of the PCC board, coordinating lobbying issues and educating students on issues of importance to them. Positions may include clerical duties. Please contact the listed supervisor for each position for more information.
Maintenance/Facilities
The Maintenance/Facilities positions include jobs in the areas of Food Services, Custodial Services, and Grounds Keeping Services. Food Services duties may include: food preparation, dishwashing, and line serving. Custodial Services duties may include: cleaning tables, sweeping floors, moving furniture, and checking restrooms. Grounds keeping work may include: raking leaves, pruning shrubs, cleaning sidewalks, hand weeding and planting annual plants. Childcare Assistant
Childcare Assistant positions are located at the Rock Creek and Sylvania Campuses. Duties may include: Assisting teachers in the care of infants, toddlers and pre-school age children, clean-up and organization of classrooms, food preparation and clean-up. Tasks also may include assisting teachers with class preparation and helping children with their craft projects and games. These jobs may be of interest to students who are interested in studying Early Childhood Education, or have an interest in teaching. Interested work-study students must pass a criminal background check.
