When Portland native Marius Pop launched wholesale patisserie Nuvrei Pastries, his mission was to create the highest level of French pastry possible. However, it was only a matter of time before he realized that sometimes even the highest quality product isn't enough.
"Just because you're good at a trade doesn't mean you're good at business," said Pop. "Nobody is born knowing how to run a business."
After making a costly payroll mistake, Pop knew he needed help. He researched his options, and CLIMB's Small Business Development Center came out the clear choice to get his business in order.
"The particular class I took required you to already be in business, which I really liked. I knew I was going to be surrounded by like-minded individuals, who were going through the same thing that I was," said Pop. He added, "It's tailor-made for a busy person."
After four years, Pop is still in touch with his contacts at CLIMB. On the cusp of opening a retail space, he plans to reach the million-dollar mark in sales this year. He credits CLIMB's Small Business Development Center with helping him gain the business skills he needed to make his vision a reality. In fact, he said, "If it wasn't for PCC, I think I'd probably be out of business."
