Health Care Interpreting for National Certification for Practitioners
Our advanced course, Health Care Interpreting for National Certification for Practitioners is for those persons with at least one year of paid experience in health care interpreting who desire the formal training required for national and/or State of Oregon certification/authorization. This course is designed to train multicultural and multilingual working interpreters in the skills and training needed to apply for and take their national certification exam.
PCC's Health Care Interpreter training for practitioners is completed in one term and offers 60 hours of the advanced skills of interpreting, ethics, telephonic and video interpreting, medical terminology, anatomy and physiology with case studies, mental health, and certification preparation. Students who successfully complete the course are then prepared to take the National Certification/Qualification Exam allowing them to work in health care settings requiring certified or qualified interpreters.
Is it Right for You?
This course is designed for working interpreters who have at least one year of paid interpreting experience, primarily in the health care setting, and who have yet to attain their national certification. National certifying bodies require 40 hours of formal training and the State of Oregon requires 60 hours of formal training before one can sit for the respective exams for certification. This course meets both of those requirements. We also teach a three hour module within this course on HOW to attain certification. Instructors are experts in the field of health care and health care interpreting. Practical skills and advanced knowledge are the keystone features of this course.
Computer Requirements
Students must have the minimum system requirements: 20MB free disk space, soundcard with headset, and an Internet connection (not dial up).
Prerequisite
Interpreters must provide written documentation verifying at least one year of paid experience in the field, primarily in health care interpreting.
