Course Description
Continues the development of Modern dance techniques at the intermediate level with focus on longer, more challenging dance phrases and performance aspects. Course may be taken a total of three times for credit as either D 292D or PE 186L. Prerequisites: PE 186J or D 192D or instructor approval. Audit available.Intended Outcomes for the course
Upon successful completion students should be able to:
• Appreciate Modern dance as an art form and recognize dance as distinguished from other art forms in order to be an informed audience member.
• Solve problems creatively both individually as well as in groups through improvisation and peer observation and feedback.
• Work together as a community through peer sharing, class discussions, and group projects.
• Create health and well being via physical activity, self expression, and group interaction.
Course Activities and Design
The course is structured to expose the student to a variety of styles of dancing; develop basic skills for enjoying ballroom, folk and
country western dance; develop a repertoire of patterns in each style of dancing; learn leading and following techniques; develop sensitivity
and recognition of rhythmic beat; recognize styles of music and appropriate steps and styling for each; appreciate the dance forms
for their value socially, recreationally, and as a lifelong fitness and social activity.
