Course Description

Addendum to Course Description

The goal is to give the student an opportunity to review first, second, and third term material, thereby reinforcing learning and preparing for the AAMA Certification Examination

Outcome Assessment Strategies


Students will demonstrate these learning outcomes by these tasks conducted individually and in cooperation with other students:
 

1. Students will complete worksheets/pre-tests, and will correct their own work during the discussion period which follows. 

Course Content (Themes, Concepts, Issues and Skills)


The following list outlines the concepts, themes, and issues you need to understand and be able to use appropriately. You will have the opportunity to demonstrate your understanding in written and oral form, individually and in groups.

1.0       Medical Terminology, Anatomy, Physiology, and Pathophysiology
To provide participants with a review of the basic principles of word structure; general medical terms and medical terms by body systems, anatomy by body system, and normal function of those systems, etiolologic agents, tests and therapies and various functional disorders.

2.0       Medical Law and Ethics
To provide participants with a review of medical law as it relates to the practice of medicine and the documentation of patient care, principles of medical ethics; their impact on the practice of medicine and the role of the paraprofessional.

3.0       Psychology, Human Relation and Communications
To provide participants with a review of medical assistant personal and professional characteristics and attitudes, and their effect on patient care, principles of appropriate communication with patients and other professionals.

4.0       Administrative Procedures
To provide participants with a review of the basic procedures of bookkeeping, collections, indexing & filing, office equipment operation and maintenance, and records management, medical practice economics, including procedures in establishment of professional fees and the concepts of medical insurance programs.

5.0       Clinical Procedures
To provide participants with a review of medical office clinical procedures, including:  medication concepts; procedures, including; medications concepts; procedures for the administration injections; handling emergencies; assisting in minor surgery and patient examinations; care and handling of supplies and equipment; basic laboratory, x-ray and  physical therapy procedures and the immunology and nutrition principles.
