Course Content (Themes, Concepts, Issues and Skills)

Use Computer Aided Design (CAD) system to design restorations
Measurement (shapes of the die and adjacent teeth)
     Data Processing
Data from a typical crown form to be applied to the imaged tooth preparation
     Determination of margin of die
Primary adaptation of a standard crown on the die
Adjustment of centric occlusion with the opposing tooth
     Occlusion surface modulation

Use Computer Assisted Machining (CAM) system to mill prostheses using CAD data.

Learn operational procedures for using CAM system to milling both tooth colored glass ceramic and zirconia.

Sintering or glass infiltration

Use of open and closed impression trays for implant cases

  • Position fixture replica on abutment
  • Pour models, cut and prepare dies for implant cases.
  • Select correct size, shape and manufacturer abutment for implant restoration.
  • Dental implant pontic design
  • Fabricate both screwed and cemented restorations to abutment restoration.

Related Instruction

Computation
Hours: 6

Use CAD/CAM technology to design and fabricate dental prostheses and fabricate different dental prosthesis for common oral implant systems.

Utilize computer, scanning and measurement skills to reproduce crowns through CAD/CAM technology

Communication
Hours: 10

Use CAD/CAM technology to design and fabricate dental prostheses and fabricate different dental prosthesis for common oral implant systems.

  • Discuss, compare and contrast the advantages and disadvantages of traditional vs. CAD/CAM fabrication of crowns.
  • Examine cases and discuss benefits of implant restorations vs fixed bridge restorations.
