Course Description

Provides systems administrators with the knowledge and skill sets to install, configure, implement, and manage a web server running Windows server or Linux operating system (does not cover publishing web page content). Prerequisites: CIS 240M or CIS 240L or instructor permission. Audit available.

Intended Outcomes for the course

On successful completion of this course the student should be able to:

  • Install and configure web server software on Linux and Windows Server Operating Systems
  • Manage web service access and permissions
  • Trouble shoot Windows and Linux Web Server issues
  • Identify system issues utilizing performance monitoring and server log analysis

Course Activities and Design

This course is presented by means of lecture/discussion sessions, assignments, exams, and lab projects. 

Outcome Assessment Strategies

Through exams, projects and class assignments students will be assessed to determine if they are able to:

  • Demonstrate written communication skills
  • Install web server software successfully
  • Analyze and troubleshoot issues surrounding a web server
