Anderson - Medical Coding/Insurance Billing

I worked in a very specialized technical field in medicine for over 15 years until I was dislocated from my position last summer due to lack of funding. I felt quite lost because there was no open position available for the same kind of work within my commuting distance and it was practically impossible to transfer my skills to any other position.

It seemed that I needed to find a new direction in my career.

When I received some information about the Career Pathway Program at Portland Community College from my career specialist, I decided to take Medical Coding/Insurance Billing course. It was mostly on line and very intensive. I spent many hours studying the material, and it provided me with a basic understanding along with a tremendous amount of information involved in Medical Coding.

Also, as a part of the Program, I attended a weekly Career Planning Course through which I learned a lot about resume writing, networking and interviewing skills. The Course helped me write a successful resume, and prepare myself to go into the interview process with confidence. During the course period, I was invited to a few interviews and I was offered a position as a coder at a medical clinic right at the end of the Career Pathway Program.
