Gilberto Munoz - VESL Health Care Fall 2009
Gilberto originally considered attending the Direct Care Worker training, because of his strong interest in the caregiving side of the healthcare field. He did not have a GED, however, and felt that his job prospects would be better if he got it. He went to school to finish his GED, and then entered the Health Care training in Fall 2009. He was open to a unique internship opportunity working as a caregiver at Reside Residential Care, which provides a home, support, and other services to men with developmental disabilities and/or criminal backgrounds. Gilberto’s kind spirit, strong ability to act as a role model, and ability to learn quickly made him a great intern, and he was hired at the end of the training. His manager, Rich Nakanishi, encouraged Gilberto to continue his education. In addition to working at Reside, he entered the CNA I program at PCC in Summer of 2010, and was ready to continue building his career in the healthcare and social services fields.
