How to Apply to the ETAP Program

Who is ETAP for?
If you want a career that will allow you to travel, earn while you learn, build interstate highways, bridges, high rise towers, and multiple story buildings, construction trades could be the career for you. Eddie Lincoln, Program Coordinator
Candidates for the ETAP program are interested in pursuing a career in the constructions trades and becoming a registered apprentice.
We are dedicated to increasing diversity in the trades industry: people of color, women, public housing/low-income residents are encouraged to apply.
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- 18 years old or older
- Have Diploma or GED
- Have legal documentation to work in the US
- Be able to pass a drug test prior to program acceptance, and pass random testing during training

Steps to Apply to the ETAP Program

Step 1: Complete Financial Aid Application
See the PCC Financial Aid webpage for step-by-step instructions on filling out your FAFSA.
Step 2: Attend an Information Session
Students must attend an information session. A variety of issues are covered including pre-Apprenticeship training, the application process and program eligibility. Information sessions take place:

- The first and third Tuesday of every month at 11:30am

Step 3: Complete an ETAP Application
Download and complete the ETAP Application. We start one cohort each term (a cohort is group of students that go through the ETAP program together). You should submit your application four weeks before the start date of the term you plan to attend. For term start dates, see the Academic Calendar.
Step 4: Apply for Admission to PCC
Apply for admission to PCC. This will allow you to register for classes at the college.
Step 5: Compass Testing
See the College Placement Tests webpage for testing dates. In order to be accepted into the program, you must place into:
- Writing 90
- Math 60
- Reading 90
If your placement test scores are below the requirements, we can refer you to the Margaret Carter Skills Center to bring up your levels. Come to an information session to learn more.
Step 6: Interview
The interview process is done by the program coordinator and staff. The interviewee will be asked up to fifteen questions to determine career goals and to ensure that the program is the right fit for the individual. We will notify you of the results by mail.
Step 7: Drug Screening
You must be able to pass a medical drug screen to be accepted into ETAP. You will receive drug test instructions when you are notified of the outcome of the interview. Drug screens are performed at Legacy Metrolab, 1225 NE 2nd Ave (at the former Holladay Park Hospital), Portland OR 97006.
Step 8: Admission and Orientation
Congratulations! You have been admitted to the ETAP program. Once you are notified of admission, you will attend a cohort orientation, which typically takes place two weeks before the start of the term. At the orientation, you will receive your class schedule, program policy information and the schedule of upcoming events.
