IT Certifications
IT certifications document high-level knowledge and expertise within a specific area of computer technology. They are often vendor or company-specific, as in the CCNA certification from Cisco or Microsoft’s MCSE. Sometimes they cover broader areas of ability, like the popular A+ certification which acknowledges basic desktop computer troubleshooting skills.
Certification seekers take a multiple-choice exam which tests their knowledge base. There is a fee for this testing. If successful they are issued a card and official document certifying their expertise, and the testing organization also maintains records which potential employers may access.
Certifications provide professional recognition of your skills, knowledge and experience in a given specialty. They demonstrate a professional commitment on your part to standards set by the IT industry. Many classes offered by the Computer Education Program target specific certifications.
