On-site training gives Consolidated Metal’s employees a lift up the corporate ladder

The Portland Development Commission contracted with CLIMB to provide customized training for Consolidated Metals Company’s (ConMet) Rivergate plant to help entry-level foundry workers on a career pathway to become Computer-Numeric Controlled (CNC) Machine Operators. As part of the project, CLIMB developed a customized math and CNC machining assessment, designed and delivered 40-hours of training in "CNC math", and designed and delivered 50-hours of technical CNC training courses on-site and on-shift to all three shifts.

As a result of training, more than 60 employees became available to bid on CNC Operator positions. ConMet reported that, one year after training was complete, no training participants had "crashed" CNC machine saving CNC an estimated $100,000.
