The Portland Community College Paramedic Program is designed as the last step in the formal education of EMT-Paramedics and those seeking the AAS-EMT degree. Minimum requirements for each applicant are:
Proof of high school graduation or GED
Current Oregon EMT-Basic or Oregon EMT-Intermediate certification from an approved D.O.T. EMT course
Successful completion upon entrance to the paramedic program of all the general education and pre-requisite courses. This must include 12 credit hours of 200 level Anatomy and Physiology.
Entry consideration will be given to those with EMS field experience. (Can be military, agency affiliated search & rescue, ski patrol, ride time with a legitimate EMS provider paid or volunteer, or in a hospital or community clinical environment).
*Please note criminal background investigation will be performed prior to EMT-Paramedic certification.

Required Verifications and Submissions
Current Oregon EMT-Basic or Oregon EMT-Intermediate certification (out of state students should allow 12 weeks for reciprocity to Oregon)
BLS Healthcare Provider card
Official documentation of the following immunizations/immunity:
Results of current negative TB exam or clear chest x-ray (within last 12 months) MMR (Measles, Mumps & Rubella immunity) if born after 1956 Tetanus (within past 10 years) Hepatitis B immunizations (complete series or positive titer results) Influenza (one dose each fall/winter) Varicella (Chicken Pox) immunity
Official transcripts submitted in sealed envelops with the school’s official stamp or seal (PCC transcripts may be unofficial)
Include a “personal statement.” This statement gives you an opportunity to indicate your unique qualities and professional goals as an EMT-Paramedic.
Please provide 3 personal references. It is preferred that one personal reference is from a physician of your choice. Additional letters can come from qualified health care providers, EMS instructors, supervisors, or persons currently employed in the fire and rescue industry.
All of the above requirements must be submitted as one complete package by the application deadline date
Interview and Selection Process
The EMT-Paramedic program is limited to 24 students and alternates
The selection process is very competitive; therefore, all materials submitted must be compete and accurate.
Oral interviews will be offered only to selected qualified applicants. You will be notified in writing of time, date and location of the interview.
Prior to beginning the EMT 200-level course of study, the following courses OR their equivalents must be competed with ‘C’ grade or higher. Contact academic advising at 503-978-5271 for questions regarding course equivalencies. Exceptions may be granted at the discretion of the EMS Department.

Successful completion of second year requirements will lead to AAS degree
For students with a 2 year degree or higher from an accredited United States institution
WR 121 competency requirement is waived
Math competency may be met by submitting a transcript showing successful completion of Intermediate Algebra or a math course with Math 95 or equivalent as a prerequisite
