About the Diesel Industry
Today's diesel technicians are highly skilled, analytical thinkers who diagnose and repair the most advanced trucks and heavy equipment that have ever been built. Engines, transmissions, brakes, hydraulic systems and even air conditioning systems are operated by on-board computers. Technicians now communicate with the on-board computers using PCs loaded with special interactive software. Technicians can view the history, read electronic faults, perform diagnostic tests and even program the parameters affecting the machine's operation.
The Diesel Job Market
Both the truck and heavy equipment markets are booming. Take a look on the highway next time you're driving down I-5. There are more trucks on the road today than ever. Look along the sides of the roads and out in the fields. Diesel technicians not only repair the trucks on the roads and the equipment maintaining the roads, but also the farm equipment out in the fields. When you drive over a bridge and see ships, tugs and large pleasure crafts going up and down the river and trains going by on the tracks-- that's right, diesel technicians repair them all.
The shortage of technicians is more severe that ever. Available jobs far outnumber qualified technicians. Upon completing the diesel technology program, you may have the luxury of choosing from several job offers. Most of our students work part or even full time while attending college. This allows you to learn and earn a good income while attending college.
PCC's program is equipped with state-of-the-art trucks, equipment and tooling, enabling the learning experience to mirror what is currently expected in industry.
