Kim Smith attends RIO+20

Dr. Kim Smith

In June, PCC Sociology instructor Kim Smith traveled to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil for "RIO+20," the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development. She was the North American representative for the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE), and presented with an international consortium of educators and administrators on the essential role of higher education in achieving sustainable development.  These efforts helped insure that the United Nations included some higher education goals in the adopted document "The Future We Want."

Dr. Smith shared, "I was thrilled to make many amazing contacts with people from various countries, the UN, the World Bank, and civil society, who are all committed to sustainable education and am honored to be part of such an incredible global effort to set goals and implement plans for a sustainable world."
