Portland Community College invites you to help take PCC Sylvania’s Learning Garden Project to the next level.  Share in our vision and explore natural building techniques as we create a 10x20 home for our worm bins.  Along with an extensive water catchment system, volunteers will use different building techniques, including straw clay, cob, and cord wood construction.  A vibrant collaborative process between PCC students, instructors, and staff, and community members, Natural Builder Casey Slezak will lead us in transforming our design into reality.  Keeping with Sylvania’s Native-American theme, the worm bin structure will also have artistic features, with Pacific Northwest imagery.

PCC Sylvania's Learning Garden is an interdisciplinary Living Laboratory to demonstrate principles of sustainability. From growing organic produce and composting leftovers in the worm bins to a native rain garden and natural dye plot, the learning garden is a dynamic place for students, staff, and the public to cultivate their minds, get in touch with nature, or simply relax on our beautiful salmon bench, under a living roof. Come join us during the VBC and enjoy daily delicious meals and snacks, learn new skills in our workshops, and create community while building an awesome worm villa together.
