Get Involved with the Sylvania Bus Stop Improvement!

Do you rely on public transportation for your commute to and from PCC Sylvania? Have you ever had to wait for a bus in the cold wind or rain outside of the provided shelters? Have you ever been forced to toss a recyclable container in the trash? Are muddy paths and soil erosion an eyesore to you?

Give us your suggestions and help create a place on campus you can be proud of.

Help make the PCC Sylvania Bus Stop more than just a place to catch the bus.

Take this online survey and voice your opinion!

Active Campus Initiatives

Sylvania Learning Garden

The Sylvania Learning Garden is a cooperative campus space for garden plot development. The purpose is to allow individuals and groups to teach and learn through organic gardening. Student centers, student groups, faculty and staff are invited to become involved in the garden by planning a plot or volunteering to help the Environmental Center. For more information about hosting a plot or to volunteer - contact Learning Gardens Committee Chair and Environmental Center Coordinator, Joshua Liebschutz.

Net Zero Report

At Sylvania campus in the spring of 2009, Gerding Edlen, a development company, approached administrative and campus-based staff with a very exciting project. Gerding Edlen proposed a project to Sylvania to transform the campus, which comprises 50% of the entire district, into a "net-zero campus". A very comprehensive plan, composed by the team at Gerding Edlen, was presented to administrators and staff at the Sylvania campus. Please see a copy of this progressive and exciting report at The E6 Net Zero Project.

Energy Conservation

The name Synergy stands for Sylvania energy. Synergy is a student led PCC Campus Climate Challenge Campaign. Synergy aims to reduce PCC’s net carbon emissions by reducing electricity waste. Synergy’s goals to reduce these emissions are:  to put PCC’s computers onto 15 minute sleep timers, to install motion sensor switches in the bathrooms, and to bring awareness to students and faculty so they will turn off lights and equipment when they are not being used. Synergy’s long term goal is to make Sylvania’s energy use sustainable and independent by starting a revolving loan fund, which will be used to invest in solar panels and rooftop wind power. Contact ASPCC Sustainability Senator, Jason Smith to get involved.

Campus Recycling

The Sylvania campus is working to implement an outdoor recycling pilot program and a new cafeteria recycling program. Sylvania has a long term vision for a new recycling program in campus malls, classrooms, hallways, and office spaces. If you are interested in helping to educate the campus community on recycling, contact: Joshua Liebschutz.
