Alliyah Mirza - Sustainability Director
Alliyah is an accomplished academic and environmental advocate. She began her career in sustainability at her hometown community college. There she worked on a cafeteria sustainability intiative with a small group of dedicated students and faculty. Together, the group facilitated a shift away from polystyrene and secured funding for a large scale composting program. Alliyah graduated from Illinois Central College with an Associate of Arts and Science and Phi Theta Kappa distinction.
Alliyah went on to help develop two campus sustainability programs at the University of Colorado. She worked with the CU Environmental Center as coordinator and program developer for a successful campus-wide energy conservation pilot initiative. Alliyah also interned for CU Recycling Services, where she researched and drafted the "Colorado Institutional Food Waste Composting Guide" which was subsequently published. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Biology with Mortar Board and ARCS Scholar distinction.
After completing her undergraduate work, Alliyah furthered her environmental education at Lewis and Clark Law School in Portland, OR. During law school, Alliyah was an elected leader with the Sierra Club Columbia Group, coordinator for Environmental Law Caucus, and an environmental litigation intern. Last year, she earned her Juris Doctor with an Environmental and Natural Resources Law certificate. Alliyah brings academic achievement and a range of environmental experience to PCC's sustainability program. She currently resides in SW Portland and enjoys playing guitar and hiking in her free time.
