Traffic Safety & Enforcement
Public Safety Officers are granted Peace Officer (law enforcement) authority pertaining to traffic and parking enforcement as stated by ORS 341.300. While patrolling campus roads, parking lots, streets and properties, officers monitor vehicle speed, traffic flow, look for vehicle infractions, moving violations, and safety concerns. Officers may use radar equipment to measure vehicle speed and to verify compliance with the posted speed limits. If you are stopped by a Public Safety Officer for a motor vehicle or driving violation, please be prepared to provide a valid drivers license, vehicle registration, and proof of automobile insurance.
DPS participates in, and maintains access to the Oregon Law Enforcement Data System (LEDS), the National Crime Information Center (NCIC), Oregon Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV), and the Portland Police Data System (PPDS). Crime related reports and statistics are routinely exchanged through and entered into these data networks.
