Why study in Paris?
Study abroad can be an enlightening, maturing and always a life-changing experience. As students live in and learn to understand a different culture, they are challenged to re-examine themselves, their attitudes and their studies. Paris, perhaps more than any other city in the world, has been a haven for intellectuals. Thousands of students throughout history have flocked to the Latin Quarter around the Sorbonne to study literature and the arts in an unparalleled academic atmosphere. The list of transplanted intellectuals who have made Paris home is impressive including Americans Ernest Hemingway, John dos Passos, E.E. Cummings, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Stephen Vincent Benet and Gertrude Stein.
If Paris is synonymous with high quality education, it is equally synonymous with beauty to the millions of people who have been enchanted by the city's boulevards, gardens and monuments. The beauty of Paris is never-ending--the Seine, the backdrop of roofs, domes, spires and towers, Sacr'e Coeur, I.M. Pei's starkly modern Pyramide du Louvre
and incomparable views of some of the world's greatest art treasures. The beauty of Paris is all around you. Paris also offers fascinating theatrical and musical entertainment. Paris theater is reviving, concerts are frequent and varied and opera is among the best in Western Europe. Cinemas d' art in the Latin Quarter have barely a hundred seats and show films from all over the world.
Paris's genius is perhaps the best displayed in her art. From prints available in Montmartre shops to Louvre master-pieces, art is a way of life. Left Bank galleries offer exciting exhibitions of tomorrow's masters. Paris enjoys varied weather. Snow rarely falls, but winter tends to be cold and at times, rainy. Summer is hot, autumn pleasant and spring frequently divine -- flowers and trees blooming by March or April.
What more can be said about this fabulous city? Much more! One can rave about Paris food, about her shops, wine, charm, architecture, night life and unique way of life. Paris is an experience worthy of everyone's discovery.
