Medical Insurance
The cost of healthcare in the United States is extremely high. Unlike many countries in the world, a student in the U.S. is responsible for all expenses from doctor, dental, hospital or emergency care. You must have medical insurance to protect yourself from these high costs. Injury insurance only pays if you are hurt accidentally. It does not pay if you become ill. International students are required to have medical insurance.
*Important Announcement*
* Beginning in Fall 2008 all international students at PCC will be required to purchase Firebird medical insurance plan offered by PCC. Please DO NOT buy health insurance coverage from your home country because it will not be accepted by PCC.
* Current PCC international students who have existing health insurance plan from their home country should not renew their insurance coverage. They must enroll in PCC medical insurance after the current insurance policy expires. ALL students will required to purchase health insurance offered by PCC effective September 2008
- Firebird Insurance Group will start to work with PCC international students Fall 2008, and it is automatically billed to your PCC account when you register.The cost of this plan is $192.00 per term for 2008-2009 school year.
- Spouse and Dependent insurance plans are available with Firebird Insurance Group. For Spouse, the premium is $384/per term; For Child (each), the premium is $192/per term.

*Making an Insurance Claim*
When you receive medical care, give the receptionist your medical card and the following information:
- PCC as the school you attend
- Your date of birth and current address
- The insurance company is billed by the doctor’s office, so you will be billed only for the copayment.
*Serious Illness or Injury*
Call 9-1-1 if your life is in danger. Go directly to a hospital emergency room if you are seriously sick or injured. Please note that Lewer Mark Insurance Plus does not cover visits to Urgent Care clinics.

Do not go to a hospital emergency room unless seriously ill or injured.
Minor Illness or Injury
If you want to see a doctor for an illness or injury not needing immediate care (for example: cold, flu) and can wait a day or two for an appointment call a doctor within the Great-West Healthcare PPO network, preferably one recommended by a friend . Visit the PCC Counseling Center for free, professional counseling services. The process will be confidential.
Dental Care
Dental care is not covered by the Firebird insurance. You’ll have to pay for all the cost on your own. If you need dental care call 1-800-dentist and ask for a dentist who belongs to the American Dental Society or ask a friend to recommend a dentist they like. Vision Care
Vision care is not covered by the Firebird Insurance. If you wear contacts or glasses it is very helpful to bring a prescription with you.
