Housing Choices for F-1 International Students

PCC does not have a dormitory on campus. It is the student’s responsibility to locate their own housing. Our students live in a variety of housing arrangements depending on their needs and interests. Please see below some of the options available for you such as, the Homestay Program, Downtown Housing, Apartments nearby PCC and Temporary housing. It is strongly recommended that you carefully read and understand housing agreements before you sign or make any formal commitment.

The Homestay Program

If you choose to participate in the homestay Program, you will live with an American family.

Andeo Homestays

The families have been carefully chosen and their homes are located near a bus stop. Students may choose between three types of homestays. For more information about the program, see the Andeo Homestay website.

Classic Homestay:

  • Approximately 3 months (1 School Term)
  • For students who want to fully experience life as part of a family

Your host family will provide you with a comfortable room, all meals when you are home, and supplies so you can pack your own lunch on school days. Mealtimes with your family are a great chance to use your English and learn more about American culture.

Cost Per Term:
Placement Fee:
$375 (non-refundable)

Short Term Homestay (**only for government sponsored students):

  • Exactly 1 month (30 Days)*
  • For students who plan to find their own housing , but want to spend their first month with a family

The short-term homestay program is designed only for more independent students who plan to move to an apartment shortly after they arrive in Portland. The homestay offers all the features of the Classic Homestay, but is limited to one month. If after one month you decide that you want to stay in a homestay, you can change to a Classic or Bed & Breakfast homestay program. However you may need to move to a different family or pay an additional placement fee. If you think you may want to stay more than one month in your homestay, Andeo recommends that you apply for the Classic homestay program.

Cost Per Term:
Placement Fee:
$375 (non-refundable)
Last 2-week deposit:

All of the homestay options include electricity, heat, Internet access, telephone, and use of the laundry facilities in the home. To participate in a homestay please send the homestay application along with the $375 placement fee as early as possible - we recommend you apply at least 45 days prior to your arrival. You will receive information about your host family before you arrive in Portland. You must be at least 18 years old to participate in a homestay program.

American Homestay Network

The American Homestay Network has host families all over the Portland area that are excited to host international students from one month to a full year. Prices range from $550 per month for a home averaging 45 minutes from campus by public bus with no meals to $870 for homes averaging 20 minutes from campus with 3 meals. Other Apartments in Portland

There is a website where you can check the availability of other rental apartments or houses in Portland. The procedure is as follows:

  1. Go to the website www.apartmentbluebook.com
  2. At the search box, select the state of Oregon and the city or zip code of the area you plan to live in.
  3. If you wish, you may customize your choices according to the price range and number of bedrooms.
  4. Click on the search button
  5. Click on the apartments offered to find more information about them. There will be the address, a more complete description of floor plans, prices, and what is included with the rent. Sometimes there will be a photo. You should compare the apartment location to the location of the PCC campus you will be attending. Remember to ask about the location of the nearest bus stop if you will be using the TriMet bus system to travel to PCC.
  6. There will be a place to click on to contact the apartment and to order an apartment bluebook for the Greater Portland/ Vancouver area to be sent to you. You can then go back to the list to view other apartments in your area of interest.
