If an F-1 student decides to withdraw from their studies at Portland Community College and return to their home country, it is required that they notify the Office of International Education right away of their planned departure. In emergency situations, this may not be possible prior, and in this case notification to the Office of International Education must be made as soon as the student is able; even after the departure, to ensure proper closing of their SEVIS Immigration record.
Notification may be made to the Office of International Education by filling out a Departure Notification Form and Insurance Termination Form. This form is used to notify the Office of International that you intend to leave Portland Community College before completing your program requirements outlined on your current I-20. Additional documentation may be required, including a copy of your airline ticket for proof of departure from the U.S.
By submitting the Departure Notification Form, action to your current SEVIS record may be required, including possible termination of your F-1 record for Authorized Early Withdraw. Without notifying the Office of International Education that you are leaving the U.S. or will not continue your studies at PCC, your SEVIS record will be terminated for Unauthorized Withdraw, and you may have problems maintaining a new status in the U.S., or lose possible immigration benefits. Please speak to an International Student Advisor at the Office of International Education to discuss your personal circumstances and possible alternatives.
