About the event

The roots of Portland Community College's "Gospel Explosion" Program first began as a part of PCC's Black History Month Program.

PCC's Black staff organization, a part of the national educational organization "The Council on Black American Affairs" laid the groundwork and created Black History Month. Over twenty years ago, PCC's Black History Month committee came up with an idea to honor our Black roots to music by giving a gospel program on campus. We called it a "Gospel Explosion." From the beginning, it was very successful. The program was held at Cascade Campus in the now nonexistent Cascade Hall for the first two years. The name was changed to Gospel Extravaganza and moved to the local church community.
