Together, Envision the Future
President Brown & the PCC Community Share Their Vision
for Community Colleges in the 21st Century
PCC Welcomes President Jeremy Brown
On October 30, Portland Community College welcomed Dr. Jeremy Brown as its sixth president, and celebrated its next chapter as a 21st century community college.
The upbeat ceremony and reception held at the Portland Art Museum—featuring performances by the Jefferson High School Dancers, the PCC Voices of Soul Choir and PCC faculty member and poet Michael McDowell—gave the public and community leaders a chance to learn more about PCC’s important role in our region, and share their vision for the college’s future by participating in multi-media "Flash Forward" activities alongside PCC staff, faculty and students.
KGW reporter Laurel Porter emceed the celebration, which included speeches by Oregon Governor John Kitzhaber and other prominent community leaders, plus PCC faculty, staff and students.
Campus Conversations: Continuing the Dialog
Spring term has arrived, and with it, a continuation of the series, "Campus Conversations ," that were launched last fall with internal and external stakeholders.
The format of these conversations, however, will change a bit; instead of the panel/audience arrangement, President Brown hopes to have informal, one-on-one visits with people from PCC campuses and centers. The goal with these meetings is simply to help President Brown get to know PCC better and to more closely understand the work under way, the needs of students we serve, and the challenges and opportunities all of you face each day in your roles at the College.
Wherever President Brown has worked, he has sought to maintain an open door policy with faculty, staff and students -- and he wants the same for PCC. As such, the campuses and centers are set to host casual meet-and-greets -- "Office Hours," you might call them -- to chat with each campus community, listen to your thoughts, and brainstorm ideas.
Below, please see the dates. Each campus president or center director will follow up with you regarding the specifics of scheduling time at your location. Please know that this won't be the only opportunity to chat informally; in addition to visiting campuses and centers this spring, President Brown plans to make "Office Hours" a regular occurrence throughout the academic year ahead, and beyond.
