Adding a graded discussion topic

You can connect discussion topics to the gradebook and assess your students’ discussion posts to give them feedback on their performance.

Option 1: Attaching a discussion to an existing grade item

  1. Click on Discussions in the navigation bar
  2. Click on the topic you want to assess.
  3. Click on the Assessment tab.
  4. Click on the drop down to the right of Choose a grade item.
  5. Select the grade item from the list of those available.
  6. Enter the Score Out of
  7. Click Save

Option 2: Add a grade item to a discussion topic

  1. Click on Discussions in the navigation bar.
  2. Click on the topic you want to assess.
  3. Click on the Assessment tab.
  4. Click on New Grade Item.
  5. Enter a “name” for the column.  This is the title your students will see.
  6. Enter a short name.  (Optional. This is the title you will see in your grade book.)
  7. Enter Max. Points
  8. Click Save to save the grade book item and return to the Assessment tab
  9. You will need to click Save again.  This will save the discussion and it’s associated grade item to the grade book.
